How RCX Sports is Shaping the Future of Youth Sports
By Izell Reese, CEO of RCX Sports
As we gear up for one of the most exciting times in sports—the upcoming Pro Bowl and Super Bowl weekends—our mission at RCX remains clearer than ever: ensure every child has the opportunity to play the game they love by making youth sports accessible, inclusive, and fun for all.
Reflecting on 2024, it was a year that showcased the power of sports to unite communities and transform lives. From expanding partnerships with professional leagues to fostering inclusivity and celebrating diversity, RCX Sports continues to establish itself as the premier youth multi-sport brand. Collaborating with some of the most recognizable professional leagues and organizations—including the NFL, NHL, MLS, MLB, NBA, WNBA, and USTA—has empowered us to support league operators in delivering exceptional youth sports experiences in communities nationwide.
As we move further into 2025, we recognize several key trends that are poised to shape the future of youth sports, and RCX Sports is well positioned to meet them head-on:
- Concerns with Early Sport Specialization: The “State of Play 2022” report highlighted the risks associated with early sport specialization, including burnout, overuse injuries, and kids leaving sports prematurely. At RCX Sports, we’re addressing this by promoting multi-sport participation through events like the NHL-4 Nations and MLS GO activations. These initiatives give young athletes opportunities to stay active year-round while enhancing their physical and mental well-being.
- Girls’ Sports Growth: Girls’ participation in sports like flag football is surging, with several states now sanctioning it as a varsity sport. At RCX Sports, we’re proud to support this movement, with a year-over-year increase in girls’ leagues and continued advocacy to elevate girls’ flag football at the collegiate level. Our Girls’ Flag Football Super Bowl commercial and other national initiatives are helping to inspire the next generation of female athletes.
- Rebuilding Local Rec Leagues: The decline of community-based recreational leagues has disproportionately affected low-income families. RCX Sports is working to reverse this trend by partnering with organizations like the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs, as well as supporting MLS and NHL initiatives that prioritize accessibility and affordability for all.
- Focus on Fun: At its core, youth sports should be about joy and development. Advocates, including RCX Sports, are emphasizing the importance of fun to retain participation and prioritize kids’ well-being. Events like the Glow-in-the-Dark Toyota Tournament at the Super Bowl, NFL FLAG Player of the Year Award at NFL Honors and our creative, joy-filled activations exemplify how putting fun first keeps kids engaged and thriving.
- Globalization of Youth Sports: Youth sports are no longer limited by borders. From expanding MLS GO into international markets to the NFL FLAG Foundation’s global scholarship program, RCX Sports is creating opportunities for young athletes around the world to connect, compete, and grow. The Pro Bowl International Tournament is just one example of how we’re fostering global connections through sports.
The Road Ahead
2025 represents an exciting chapter for RCX Sports. By staying true to our mission, prioritizing the needs of young athletes, we’re ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play, grow, and thrive alongside our partners, league operators, and communities,
With gratitude,
Izell Reese
